Little 500: Race Preview, Part 2

You might think from the title of this post that I am going to give you a full and unbiased preview of the women's Little 500 Race on Friday. Uh ... no. This post is all about why Team Teter will place in the top 5 out of 33 teams competing, and has a good shot at winning it all.

Now before I share my brilliant insights with you, I have to thank Bree Peacock, my first-cousin-once-removed for sharing this photo of Susan with me, so I could share it with you. It's great to have a professional photographer in the family. Thanks Bree! Susan is number 27 above, in the Teter green and grey kit from last year.

Back to my insights, as you probably know by now (since I've been basically shouting it from the rooftops), my daughter Susan is on the Teter Team, but that's not the only reason I think the team will do very well this year. No. I have actual facts, statistics, if you will, that back up my claim of their capability of a top showing.

Out of 34 teams on the track March 27 trying to qualify, Teter had the second fastest time, trailing the first-place team by three-hundredths of a second. In other words, it was pretty darn close.

At the individual time trials March 31, Teter team members placed 1st, 17th, 22nd and 28th out of 139 riders. Not too shabby. The same Teter rider who placed 1st in the ITT, Caitlin Van Kooten, also won the Miss 'N Out event April 10, where the strongest rider survives a series of heats where only the top finishers move on.

So, yeah, Teter is pretty strong. Right now the last warm-up event before the Little 500 is taking place: The Team Pursuit. It is basically a team time trial where the team rides a certain number of laps (4, 5, 8? I didn't say this was the definitive preview) and the team time is set when the third member of the team crosses the finish line. That's supposed to be done by 10 p.m., so we'll know a little more about which teams to watch Friday.

In addition to Teter's strong showing at the pre-race events, Teter has a history of placing well the last several years. I won't bore you with all the many details, but you can find the past race results and records here.

That is my Little 500 Race Preview, probably more accurately labeled "Little 500 Teter Preview." Let's just say, I really like their chances.
